A Decade of Innovation, Security and Growth

2024 marks a significant milestone for Cyberseer - our 10-year anniversary! It’s been a decade filled with growth, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to protecting businesses from an ever-evolving landscape of cyber threats. As we celebrate this milestone, we’re reflecting on the past, examining how the cybersecurity landscape has changed, and looking ahead to what the future holds.

Our Journey and the Importance of ASPECTAspect logo

One of our biggest achievements has been the development of ASPECT, our in-house proprietary automation platform. Version 1 of ASPECT was deployed back in 2018 and has been continually improved since then. While many cybersecurity providers rely solely on third-party tools, we knew from the outset that owning our technology would give us a unique edge. ASPECT is intrinsic to our service offering, enabling us to automate, standardise, and optimise threat detection and response, like no one else. It’s custom-built to address our client’s unique challenges and an extension of our SOC (Security Operations Centre) expertise, ensuring precision and speed.

  • Unmatched Threat Detection: ASPECT automates repetitive tasks and applies scoring logic, streamlining alerts for our analysts. This system drastically reduces human error and accelerates response times.

  • Client-Centric Innovation: Our clients benefit from ASPECT’s 24/7 operational monitoring, which keeps their environments safe from emerging threats.

This approach reduces the dwell time of threats in client environments, making our service not only fast but also exceptionally accurate. The result? Enhanced security outcomes and greater peace of mind for our clients.

Cyber Threats Over the Last Decade

When Cyberseer was founded in 2014, the cyber threat landscape was already daunting, but few could have predicted the extent to which it would evolve. Over the past decade, we’ve seen a range of new and increasingly sophisticated threats emerge:

  1. Ransomware Attacks: Once a niche threat, ransomware has become one of the most damaging types of attacks. High-profile incidents have demonstrated the catastrophic impact ransomware can have on businesses and even entire governments.

  2. Phishing and Spear Phishing: Phishing scams have become more targeted, with cybercriminals using social engineering techniques to trick victims into revealing sensitive information.

  3. Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs): Nation-state actors have increasingly turned to cyber warfare, using APTs to infiltrate organisations, steal data or disrupt operations over an extended period.

  4. IoT Vulnerabilities: The proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has introduced new vulnerabilities. Attackers have exploited these poorly secured devices to launch attacks and gain entry into networks.

  5. Cloud Security Challenges: As businesses have migrated to the cloud, attackers have found new opportunities to breach systems, exploiting misconfigurations and gaining unauthorised access to cloud environments.

Adapting to a Changing World

The last decade has also seen rapid changes in how we work and live. The pandemic ushered in a remote work revolution almost overnight, and businesses had to scramble to secure their digital perimeters. The increasing reliance on digital infrastructure has made cybersecurity a top priority for organisations, and Cyberseer has been there every step of the way, helping clients stay ahead of emerging threats.

Potential Cyber Threats Over the Next 10 Years

As we look to the future, the cybersecurity landscape shows no signs of stabilising. In fact, the threats we face are likely to become even more sophisticated and pervasive.

  1. Future Deepfake-minAI-Driven Attacks: Just as AI is transforming cybersecurity defences; it’s also becoming a powerful tool for cybercriminals. AI can automate and scale up attacks, making them faster and harder to detect. For example, AI could be used to generate highly convincing deepfake content or craft phishing emails that are indistinguishable from legitimate communications.

  2. Quantum Computing Threats: While still in the early stages, quantum computing could one day break existing cryptographic protocols, rendering current encryption methods obsolete. The race is already on to develop quantum-resistance algorithms, but it’s a looming change for the industry.

  3. Supply Chain Attacks: As businesses rely on interconnected networks of suppliers and partners, attackers are likely to continue exploiting these relationships to compromise multiple organisations through a single breach.

  4. Weaponised IoT Devices: As IoT devices become even more widespread, attackers will have more opportunities to compromise networks. The potential for large-scale disruptions, like using connected devices to launch DDoS attacks, remains a significant concern.

Awards and Recognition:

Cyberseer Certified as Darktrace EMEA Service Partner of the Year

Over the past decade, we’ve been honoured as the Darktrace EMEA Service Partner of the Year (2022), underscoring our dedication to excellence. This recognition reflects our ability to integrate the best front-end technology with bespoke solutions like ASPECT, providing unparalleled threat intelligence. We’re proud to be recognised as leaders in the field, and we remain committed to delivering the best possible security outcomes for our clients, such as Knight Frank, MarkerStudy Insurance and Axi.

Why Cybersecurity Matters:

  • Ransomware Costs: According to Sophos, there has been a 400% increase in the median ransomware payment over the last year, up from $400,000 to $2,000,000. These types of cyber crime have surged by 70% globally in 2023, affecting more industries and regions than ever before.

  • Remote Work Vulnerabilities: Since the pandemic, there’s been an almost 600% increase in cybercrime. The International Monetary Fund noted that the rapid shift to remote work has increased cyber risks, emphasising the need for robust cybersecurity measures.

Looking Ahead:

As we celebrate 10 years of protecting our clients, we’re also excited about the future. The next decade will bring new challenges, but with ASPECT and our talented team, we’re ready to tackle tomorrow’s cyber challenges. We owe our success to our clients, who trust us to be their cybersecurity partners, always ready to adapt, innovate, and protect.

Thank you to our clients and partners who’ve been part of this incredible journey and here’s to the next decade of defending, innovating, and growing together.
